On a personal note
Sophocles has been at Pictorials since 1994 and has become
very well known for his style of portraiture and wedding photography.
He is primarily a photographer of people. This is what he
enjoys and does best and the string of awards he has been
presented with over the last four years is proof of his passion
"...Alexiou is no ordinary high-street snapper."
BIPP Portrait Photographer of the Year 2003
September 2001 Portrait photography commissioned by
BBC 'Homefront' and part of the shoot is shown on TV.
The Kodak European Gold Awards, Sophocles was presented with
this prestigious award in 1996, 1997 & 1998.
1996-1997 Wins the London Portrait Group Trophy three
October 1997 Sophocles was awarded a gold medal by
the British Institute of Professional Photography (BIPP).
March 1998 The winner in the wedding category of the
UK Kodak Wedding & Portrait Awards.
June 1998 Another Gold medal presented by the BIPP
in it's International Print Competition. This image was chosen
to be part of the National Print Exhibition. The exhibition
started its one year UK tour in the Royal Albert Hall.
March 1999 Runner up in the Wedding category of the
UK Kodak Portrait & Wedding awards. Two silver medals
presented by the BIPP.
January 2000 Sophocles' image 'Millennium Woman' was
selected for national display in celebration of portrait photography
for the new Millennium.
May 2000 Presented with his third Gold Medal by the
BIPP. This image is chosen for the National Print Exhibition.
July 2000 Wedding Finalist for Wedding Photographer
of the Year 2000.
April 2001 Awarded Fellowship of the British Institute
of Professional Photography, and also presented with the Peter
Grugeon Award. This is the highest accolade that the Institute
gives and Sophocles was the only photographer to receive Fellowship
August 2001 Awarded Fellowship with the Master Photographers
